  2. Wild About Wine

    by Michelle Finch

If you’re planning on visiting Oklahoma’s Beavers Bend area for outdoor recreation or a romantic getaway, you might be surprised to find that a local winery makes a fabulous place to gather for a taste of the grape.

Hello, my name is Michelle Finch, co-owner of Girls Gone Wine in Broken Bow, Okla. For me and friends, Rhonda Reed and Chandra Rickey, the idea to open a winery actually began as a hobby since we all had other full-time jobs.  I am a museum director, Rhonda is a property developer and Chandra is a restaurant/bed and breakfast entrepreneur. We had talked about opening a winery for quite a while, and one day we all said, “Let’s do it!” Girls Gone Wine officially opened its doors on April Fools’ Day 2006.

Girls Gone Wine is an unexpected treat for many who come to Beavers Bend as an outdoor recreation destination.  We offer free wine tastings, a gift shop full of unique treasures (most wine related), and a wine production area as well as an outdoor patio where friends can visit with old friends and make new ones over a glass of wine.

We get quite a few tour groups stopping in at the winery for tastings and a visit on the patio which accommodates 20 to 40 people. Sometimes we host events for up to 50 using the entire facility. We can arrange wedding showers, and other small get-togethers with outside catering. The winery is also a popular destination for gal pal “Chick Trips.”

Although Girls Gone Wine does not have a vineyard, there is a production area where my husband, Terry Walker, makes our own wine from a variety of juices. The wine is then bottled, corked and labeled.

Group tours, as well as individuals, find it a fascinating experience to learn how wine is made. Sometimes we have a group of 15 or less arrange to make their own batch of wine, then come back in four to nine weeks to cork and bottle it with their own labels for gifts or special events. Of course, they could allow the wine to age, but most prefer not to wait.

Oklahoma law prohibits us from distributing our wines within the state, but we will be happy to ship to other states that do allow it. We can arrange on-site tastings at different locations and often participate in local events and festivals.

If you’re considering a group tour or weekend getaway to Oklahoma’s beautiful Beavers Bend area, remember that there’s more than rustic scenery, great cabins, lakes and recreational areas. There’s also Broken Bow’s Girls Gone Wine  – the winery that goes well with everything!

  3. A Winning Event Place? You Bet!

    by Christy McCormack

What could be more thrilling than watching your favorite horse cross the finish line?

Sharing the action, fun and excitement with your entire group of racing fans at Remington Park in Oklahoma City!

Hello, my name is Christy McCormack, Remington Park’s Groups Sales Manager.

I’ve  worked at Remington Park just about my entire adult life!  I began at the age of 22 in Guest Relations helping people navigate the facility.  Next, I went to the Racing Information Center where I assisted people in understanding the program and learning how to wager.   In 1996, I became Group Sales Coordinator and  promoted to Group Sales Manager when Remington Park’s casino opened in 2005.

Remington Park offers exceptional value to event and meeting planners.   You can book your racing group from 20 – 600 people and enjoy free stadium seating.  Or, if you wish to pre-purchase catering and programs, we’ll also be happy to arrange those services, as well.

For motor coach operators, we offer two packages.  Our Tourism Package allows operators to include Remington Park as part of a tour package with no time limit at the casino.   This free package includes $10 free-play for guests and free sourvenirs – even if the motor coach is simply visting Remington Park as a rest stop.  Lunch (including box lunches) for the group can be pre-purchased at a discounted rate.

We also have a Preferred Operator Package for motor coach operators.  When set up in advance, Remington Park  pays reputable operators a per person commission with a 12 12 month, 4 group minimum contract.

Especially popular are  Remington Park’s complimentary stable tours enjoyed by children, adults and seniors.  For about two hours, groups ranging in size from 10 to 50 have the pleasure of visiting our barns to experience “A Day in the Life of a Race Horse.”

You might be surprised to learn that about 85% of Remington Park’s Group Sales business comes from catering.  Our luxury suites accommodate 15 – 65 people for wedding rehearsal dinners, wedding showers, bachelor parties, birthday parties, as well as monthly corporate meetings.   Our Eclipse Banquet Room is perfect for larger events, up to 350 reception style and 300 banquet style.

Remington Park hosts a great number of corporate events, especially day meetings that often roll into social entertaining and wagering in the evening.   In January 2010, we will begin a $3 – $5 million dollar renovation and upgrading our meeting spaces which will include the latest technology in audio/visual equipment.

If you’re looking for a unique place to take your tour group, hold a corporate meeting or checking out venue choices for your wedding or other special event, don’t settle for a location that odds are will only “place or “show.”  Bet on the favorite to win every time – Remington Park!

  4. This Catering Legend Continues

    by Megan Sherrill

In Tulsa, say the name “Ludger’s” and just about everyone will recognize it as the first name in the finest catering services available.  And, even with new owners, that exceptional tradition continues to be earned every day!

Hello, my name is Megan Sherrill, co-owner of Ludger’s Catering and Fine Dining in Tulsa.  Originally Ludger’s Cakes and Catering, my husband Scott and I recently assumed ownership of the catering side of the business, keeping the name and the commitment to continue a 20-year tradition of meeting the very highest catering standards.

We consider it quite an honor that the Ludger’s sought my husband and me out to purchase the catering side of their business, while they maintained ownership of the other part of their business- custom cakes.  Scott was a culinary instructor at OSU at the time and I was a General Manager of a downtown Tulsa restaurant.  The Ludger’s wanted the business to continue as “family owned” and felt Scott and I were a good match.

Ludger’s Catering and Private Dining offers full-service catering for all types of events, from small business meetings of 10 to large weddings and other events for as many as 1000 guests.  We serve Tulsa and the surrounding areas.

If you visit our website, you’ll find sample menus, but we pride ourselves on creating custom menus for just about any kind of food you can imagine, buffet or sit-down-American traditional favorites, hot and cold appetizers, a large variety of ethnic cuisines, pasta, tenderloin and roasted chicken, just to name a few.

Ludger’s will be happy to provide full-service catering services to any venue in our service area.  We also have our own Private Dining Room which accommodates 80 guests banquet style and 100 come-and-go.  This lovely area is always decorated for the holidays and has a dance floor for receptions, parties and showers, but also has a podium with its own audio/visual equipment for corporate use.

Fully licensed to provide bar service on or off our premises, Ludger’s Catering and Fine Dining also rents linens and chairs and we’ll be happy to coordinate all other aspects of the event upon request.

We work closely with Ludger’s Cakes next door and will conveniently coordinate appointments to discuss catering and cake designs- even arrange tastings – at the same time.

If you’re looking for a caterer you can depend on for the highest quality food and beverage, most professional attitude, as well as dependable, exceptional service, choose the name that has set the standard of excellence in Tulsa catering for more than 20 years – Ludger’s Catering and Fine Dining .  Ludger’s is approved by the Better Business Bureau and voted Tulsa’s #1 caterer by Urban Tulsa and Tulsa People magazines.
