A book makes a unique, thoughtful and treasured gift for nearly any occasion.  Look for ones which reflect the recipient’s hobbies or interests.  For bridal showers and weddings, a book of love poems is always appropriate.  Books with gorgeous photos or inspirational stories are often perfect for birthdays, baby showers or as a comforting get-well gesture.   Ask your bookseller for suggestions and check for book signing dates and locations.  Most writers would be honored to personalize a copy of their book for added value to your gift.

If you have a concept or theme for your special events, be sure to share your ideas with your planner early on. Don’t prejudge your event planner’s ability to be creative or stretch a budget and definitely don’t let anyone talk you out of your event, your way. However, it’s not necessary to nail down your concept before your meeting with a planner. Be open to his or her suggestions and experience without getting talked into the safe-but-boring and overdone. Excitement and imagination are the main ingredients of a great event!

Don’t ever assume your chef can’t do something special.  Why settle for steak or chicken?  Think out-of-the-box and request Crawfish Etoufee or even a completely vegetarian meal.  Be sure to ask about wine selection and if you can special order your favorite which may not be on the standard wine list. Want to end on a sweet note? Ask your chef to custom order chocolates with a personal or business logo.  One attribute of a great catering chef is his or her willingness to go the extra mile.
